“JESUS IS LORD. It is not a philosophy, it is not a theory, it is not my family culture, it is not my family tradition, it is not “I was raised that way”. Jesus is the Lord of my life. “ -Pastor Oglesby
Pastor William Calvin Oglesby shook the house of the Lord on Sunday January 26th, 2020. We were confronted with the question of:
Is Jesus the Lord of your life? What are we saying when we say, “Jesus is Lord!”
Thinking back to the day Pastor Oglesby gave his life to the Lord he recalls saying to himself that “from that day forward, I would be His and He would be the Lord of my life.” Whether he was ready for it or not, Jesus was Lord and had sole reign and authority over his life. “He’s not going to let you drive the bus, because He is Lord!”. We were given Philippians 2:5-11 to begin reading out of, and verse 10 and 11 reads:
That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. KJV
Wow. The explicitness of this is a wonder. EVERY KNEE. EVERY TONGUE. Of things in HEAVEN and things in EARTH and things UNDER EARTH. That leaves no room for anyone or anything to escape the powerful authority of Jesus being Lord of all. “Even Satan is going to declare that Jesus Christ is Lord!” Pastor declared. What a revelation.
After reading from Philippians, Pastor divulged to us that he was in some discomfort and pain because he actually had oral surgery quite recently. He quickly snapped back into how that was a testament to Jesus being Lord over his life because he commanded even unto himself that “It’s not about me! I consider myself dead!”. I sat there and wrote down in my notebook that “Jesus Christ is Lord”, that every knee shall bow, and every tongue shall confess, that no matter what is happening, no matter what I’m feeling, no matter what the world is saying or my flesh is saying, Jesus is, was, and always will be Lord. God often throws us into the fire because He knows what it renders-death to ourselves, total trust in Him, and the ultimate conclusion that Jesus is Lord of our life, no matter how we view it. “He has all the authority. His authority far exceeds the authority of man’s authority.” Pastor further clarified.
WarLORD. DrugLORD. LandLORD. There are many lords that exist in the world, with many different contexts, and they all have a certain authority over those contexts and what they say goes. Our Lord, however, surpasses all earthly contexts of “lord”. Pastor noted, “How else can He be Lord of all if He wasn’t Lord over death and the grave? Death didn't have authority over Jesus! Jesus yielded to death so that we may be set free.” Selah!
We are left with this. If He’s going to be the Lord of our life the way we so easily proclaim in every day life and even in song, we must do it His way, which Pastor Oglesby so faithfully released into the atmosphere.
My prayer is that you receive this, meditate, ask God for continuous wisdom, and proclaim for yourself with supernatural confidence that Jesus indeed is Lord.
With Grace and Mercy and Peace to you all,
